Volunteer work

I do a little bit of volunteer work at the kids school, helping out the parent support worker and now helping out the Primary 1 teachers with a thing called Active Literacy. Basically the kids are sent to us in groups of between 5 and 10 and we have 3 topics - writing, listening and making letters from different things.

The making letters table gets the kids to make letters out of clay, pipe cleaners, sorting letters into sizes etc. This as one wee problem - there is a tray of sand that the kids use to write the letter in with their fingers. Now most of the kids are ok but a couple of them are a bit wild and make a bit of a mess.

This week there is also a "Walk to School Week" where the kids are encouraged to walk in a large group - or walking bus as it is called - to school. Monday we had 30 in our group, yesterday we had 42 and today we had 52. Now 52 kids takes more than a couple of adults to look after but today we had 6 but this wasnt enough as the boys n the group were a bit wild. Tomorrow I think I will be doing my Sergeant Major impersonation to try and get them to school in a bit more organised fashion
